“So what happened to your neck?” Sonja asked as soon as they were riding down the private elevator to the lobby.
“Someone attacked me in my house.”
She gasped. “What?”
“It was connected to the blackmail scheme.” He told her all about it on their way to Dexter’s place to pick up her things.
“I could’ve lost you,” she said while the car parked in front of the brownstone.
“I could’ve lost the opportunity to love you forever. But, baby, I don’t feel like our time together is going to end any time soon. Let’s just live a nice safe life from this point out.”
She cracked a smile. “No skydiving?”
He smiled too. “None.”
“Not even if we’re together?”
“That’s no guarantee we’d die together.”
Sonja grimaced squeamishly. “Yikes, that’s kind of morbid, isn’t it?”
He gently kissed her, making her mind do back flips. “It is,” he said breathlessly. “That’s why I changed the subject.”
They went inside Dexter’s home to collect her suitcases. She told him the funny story of her first day she arrived in the city, which included being trapped in a stinky train car with a guy for an hour and struggling to walk to Dexter’s house from the subway. She also told him about Maribel and Mariana.
“Ah, great girls,” he said before they headed back to the car.
“We’re going to have dinner with them a few times this week, okay?”
“I’m in,” he said and locked the door behind them.
They kissed and groped each other all the way to their five-star hotel in Manhattan, where Jay had reserved a luxury suite for the whole upcoming week.
They couldn’t avoid cameras snapping pictures and girls exclaiming when they saw Jay. Sonja had learned that New York truly was the city that never slept. The good thing was that inside the hotel, they entered a special elevator that took them straight to their suite.
Once their luggage was brought up and they were alone, they wasted no time stripping each other out of their clothes and falling into bed. Sonja was ready for Jay to make love to her, and that was what he did, over and over and over again.
